We had a great time in Ohio. The town was wonderful and the
people were very nice. We arrived at Miami University on Friday night to warm
up and stretch out for our games the next day. We played Notre Dame on Saturday
morning beating them 5-3 in a close game. We had played them a few weeks before
on their spring break at Cal Poly so we were already friends with them. We then
played Northwestern later that day and finished with a final score of 10-1.
This allowed us to finish first in our bracket. The winner of bracket B turned
out to be Purdue who beat Florida in a very close game earlier that day. We
stepped it up and pulled together as a team to beat Purdue 9-2. This victory
allowed us to continue on to the championship game on Sunday. We ended up watching
a very physical and competitive game Saturday night as Miami Ohio played their
rival Michigan State. Miami ended up winning by one goal. Sunday afternoon we
would play Miami. With our nerves starting to get the better of us, we arrived
at the pool Sunday morning. We had never played Miami before and had played
Michigan State in 2003 at Nationals. We came out strong in the first quarter
relying heavily on our star defender Emily Dodds, and intense lanes defense
out on the perimeter. This allowed us to shut down their offense. We got two
quick goals on them in the first quarter. Unfortunately, the second quarter
was a bit of a problem for us. Miami came back and tied up the game. We played
a grueling third and fourth quarter with both teams scoring a few more goals,
and ending up in a tie at the end of the fourth. We now had to go into overtime.
We scored on a man up situation and controlled the ball to win the game 7-6.
It was a great Championship game and the Miami Ohio parents came up to us afterwards
congratulating us on a good game. We were very impressed with their superb overall
attitude. We look forward to hopefully return to this tournament next year.
The pool was amazing and the tournament was well run. We had a great time! Here
